About this site

What is this?

StockRanker is Website that allows you to develop your own stock investing checklist and evaluate companies against it. When mistakes are costly, all professionals use checklists: pilots, surgeons, administrators, technicians, investors.

Don't take it from me - famous investors around the world say that checklists are a must:

Is StockRanker free to use?

Yes, it's free to use, for the time being. It costs me many hours and a moderate amount of money to make and host it, which I hope I can cover via voluntary donations. 🤗

Why can't I recover my account if I forget the credentials?

For privacy reasons, we don't collect an e-mail address, nor any other personal information that would allow us to contact you. If we did such a thing, we would expose ourselves to liability questions, for example in case of data breaches. It's just not worth it. We don't want to know who you are - please safeguard your account credentials and enjoy the anonymity.

User's questions

Why can't I re-order the companies in my checklist?

StockRanker automatically creates an ordering of your companies, from best to worse. It's the whole idea of it. Check the score in the right-most column - this is derived from how your companies evaluate in each of the categories.

A "Strong" rating awards a point, a "Weak" rating subtracts a point.

What is the minimal investable score a company should achieve?

or:

Why is my total score across all companies negative?

Both the actual score and its total sum are meaningless. We are only interested in finding the better companies out of a pool of potential investments. The companies are rated relative to each other. There is no absolute statement like "This is a good investment".

How is it determined that a company evaluates as "Strong" or "Weak" in a category?

The basic algorithm is to calculate the top and bottom quartiles of how the companies perform in each category, with some custom logic on top. Quartiles are a bit tricky with small data sets, so there is some extra logic to provide additional discrimination.
